New Hope Homecoming 2008
New Hope Park has changed the Homecoming plans for this year. We will no longer have Homecoming on October 4th. The new date is set for what originally was planned for “Pep Rally” night. Homecoming is now on Friday, September 26th and Saturday, September 27th.
Here is what to expect for Friday’s “Homecoming Night”: All players need to show up to New Hope Park at 6:30 in full padded uniform on Friday, September 26th (no helmet). This is the evening each team will have their courting walk time. I will arrange with the 9 year old Cheerleading Coach so that each player will walk with a cheerleader. If your son has already asked, or already has someone to walk with, please let me know so I can include the person’s name and so I know I do not need to facilitate a date for Homecoming. Your player does not have to walk with a cheerleader. He can walk with anyone he chooses. This can be a sibling, cousin, aunt, mother, father, or grandparent. He does NOT have to walk at all if he chooses not to, this is entirely optional, however, he will not be recognized with the team if he opts to not participate during Homecoming. I need each of you to let me know if your son decides not to participate. Please understand we encourage each team member to take part, but he will not be forced to. The park will start Homecoming with the youngest players first and work towards to oldest. Parents can take pictures of their player & cheerleader/date as they walk through the decorated gate on the football field. We will also have a professional photographer who will be taking pictures that you can purchase the same day. Homecoming should be done around 9:30p.m. Food and drinks WILL NOT be provided this year. The concession stand will be opened.
Poster Board Spirit Contest: Each year during Homecoming, New Hope has a poster board spirit contest. I will give each player a poster board as soon as the park gives them out. This needs to be done completely by the player. There is no theme to the contest. Each player can decorate his board however he likes. Please have your player include his coach’s name and his name on the back so we know whose board is whose. He can use paint, markers, crayons, cut-outs, glitter, or glue to decorate with. Please have him turn in his poster no later than Thursday, September 25th to me at practice. All posters will be hung around New Hope ball fields on Friday and Saturday. If your son wants his poster back, just let me know so I can collect it for him. Your son will be notified if he wins first or second prize. Prizes will be determined later and are typically a Visa gift card.
Here’s what to expect for Saturday’s “Homecoming Game Day”: We play South Paulding Bears @ New Hope Park for our Homecoming Game Day. However, our make-up picture day has also been scheduled for this day. Please arrive at 12:30 p.m. for a team make-up picture. Please have our player in full padded uniform when you arrive on this day. Practice will follow immediatley after our team photo is finished. The photograhper has also decided that if anyone wants make-up individual pictures done, he will do these this day, too.
Booth Fundraiser: Each team has the opportunity to sell items in a booth on this day for money towards their team. It is imperative that each parent help in manning the booth for our team. The booth can be opened from 9am- 9pm on this day. I already have one parent who has donated a generator for the day, but we will need more supplies. We will need 2 large tables and a sturdy canopy. I will need a parent to decorate a banner for our booth. This banner needs to include our team name “New Hope 9 year old 110 lb. DII team”. It should also include what we are selling and the prices for each item. I will get a finalized list of items we are selling and the prices to whom ever can do this for the team. I have one parent who has already volunteered to make roasted corn and rice. If you have an idea for something we could sell at our booth, please let me know ASAP so we can get the details worked out and include them at our booth. I will need a parent to bring small Styrofoam/plastic bowls, napkins, & spoons to be used for the food we are selling. I will coordinate a schedule for parents to work the booth so that we are opened long enough to make money needed for our team. Our booth will be opened from 11am until 3pm (our game time), or until we run out of food/items. The money earned will go towards our end of year banquet and any possible Turkey Bowl games.
Please remember this day is going to be different than a regular game day. All help is needed from our team to make this day as profitable and smooth as possible. The more money we can make the less you will have to pay for our banquet and season. I will let each of you know what time to be at the field for our make-up pictures and what time I need you at the booth. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask me.
End of Year Banquet: This year we will have our party at the new Stars and Strikes in Dallas. When I get the final details I will let you all know. If there is a date in November (besides Thanksgiving) or early December that you know will be a problem for your family please let me know ASAP. I will work with Stars and Strikes for the best possible schedule for our team. I cannot promise the perfect date but I will try.
Please let me know if you have any questions, thoughts or concerns about Homecoming Night, Homecoming Game Day, the poster contest, our booth or the end of year banquet. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!!!
